Do I need council building approval for a shed in Gatton or the Lockyer Valley?
In most cases, yes. However, some small sheds and structures may be classed as self-assessable building work if they meet specific size, height, setback and other requirements set by Lockyer Valley Regional Council.

What are the boundary setback requirements for a shed?
All the Council areas vary in the setback they require from boundaries but general in an urban area your shed or carport needs to be 6m from the front boundary and 1.5m from the side and rear boundaries.
In rural areas these setbacks differ for each Council.
It is worth checking with your local Council.
Does my shed need engineering certification?
Yes, at R & F Steel Buildings Gatton, all sheds are designed using site-specific engineering tailored to your property’s exact location and conditions. This helps ensure your building is designed to meet applicable regulations while providing the strength and durability required for local conditions.
What wind rating does my shed need?
At R & F Steel Buildings Gatton, all sheds are designed using site-specific engineering to ensure they are suitable for local conditions and comply with applicable building requirements.
Do you use Australian steel?
Yes. R&F buildings use Australian BlueScope Steel, including genuine COLORBOND® steel and LYSAGHT® products. These products form an important part of our building system and are supplied alongside our locally fabricated steel structures.

Can you do everything for me?
At R & F Steel Buildings Gatton we offer the full service of building your shed. This includes the concrete slab, Standard Council Building Application, supply of materials and the constriction of your shed or carport.
You just need to provide us with a level site.
Do you use Contractors?
All our concrete and construction crews are employed by R & F Steel Buildings Gatton. This way we maintain quality and control over your shed or carport.
What colours are available for my shed?
We use the COLORBOND® steel Colour range which has 22 colours. This way you’ll be able to complement your home and your property’s surroundings.
