Built Around the Needs of a Working Farm
For many farming families around Flagstone Creek and the wider Toowoomba region, major farm infrastructure is something that is thought about for years before the decision is finally made to build. A hay shed is no different. When you’re storing a significant amount of hay, the building needs to do more than simply provide a roof. It needs to make sense for the way the property operates, provide the storage capacity required and help keep hay protected through the seasons. For this Flagstone Creek property, the result was a purpose-built hay shed designed around the scale and practical needs of the farm.

The completed hay shed provides storage for around “34,000 small square bales and more than 2,000 round bales” – Client, creating substantial additional covered storage for the property. With that volume of hay, having the right infrastructure in place makes a real difference to day-to-day operations. Keeping hay dry and protected, having room to store larger quantities and being able to manage bales more efficiently all become important considerations when planning the building. Rather than working around the limitations of an existing structure, this shed was designed specifically for its intended purpose — providing the space and functionality needed to support the farm’s hay operation for years to come.

The shed also features R&F Signature Custom Sliding Doors, with each door assembled and welded on site. Rather than relying solely on a pre-assembled door, building the doors on site allows the R&F team to work to the actual finished structure and site conditions. This helps achieve the fit required for the individual openings and provides a clean, purpose-built finish. For a large hay shed where access and movement around the building are part of everyday farm operations, getting the doors right is an important part of the overall design.
